Kisatchie Star Party 2005 Images

Return to MallinCam TM Homepage

All the images below were produced from video recorded on the night of March 12, 2005 at the Fifth Kisatchie Starparty. A 17.5" f/4.58 AstroSystems TeleKit with ServoCAT drive system, MallinCam PRO DOB Video CCD Oberservational System, and MallinCam Focal Reducer were employed to both view all these objects "live"on the screen of a 10.2" portable DVD player and to record the camera's output directly to DVD using a Sansui VHS/DVD recorder. The DVD segments for each object were converted to AVI files, the AVI files were reduced in size by deleting duplicate frames, and the "decimated" AVI files were processed using RegiStax to produce the images in the album. It should be noted that many of the stars in the images suffer elongation due to wind gusts that buffeted the telescope all night long during the observing session.

The MallinCam PRO DOB camera used for these images was limited to an exposure length of 2.1 seconds; unlike the MallinCam B&W HYPER which is capable of 12 second exposures. It also only had the Radiant Cooler mechinism to help reduce warm pixels; unlike the MallinCam B&W HYPER which has a thermoelectric Peltier cooler intergrated into the camera.
