The original Dobsonian telescope that I constructed to house a Coulter Optical 17.5" f/4.58 mirror set was ugly but highly functional. The tube was 3/8" solid fiberglass - a salvaged concrete column form. The altitude bearings were slices of a piece of 12" diameter, 1/2" thick Aluminum conduit. This picture shows the scope's debut at TSP '82.
