MallinCamTM B&W HYPER Images

The MallinCam B&W HYPER is no longer available. The MallinCam B&W HYPER PLUS is the only B&W model curently in production. This page shows what was possible with the non-PLUS version of the camera. The PLUS version is capable of going much deeper.

The MallinCam B&W HYPER is capable of delivering live images of deep sky objects onto a monitor, laptop screen or televison. Below is a album containing digital camera photographs of the screen of a 12" B&W 800 line monitor. The original observing run was made using a 17.5" AstroSystems TeleKit with MallinCam focal reducer resulting in a system speed of about f/3. The camera's video output was fed into a DVD recorder and this video was being played on the monitor when the screen shots were taken. A hand-held Canon S45 digital camera set to automatic mode obtained these images.

Below are several images made by stacking frames from the original DVD recording. I failed to take a dark frame during the observing session; thus none was subtracted from the stack of frames. The MallinCam Video CCD Observational System is designed for live viewing; but it can be used for making nice astro-images. There were some specks of dust on the CCD sensor causing the dark dust motes seen in some of the images.
